Executive Summary of Business Strategic Plan – 2017

Real Life Financial Mathematics  (RLFM), powered by Decker & Associates, Inc and Financial Mentors of America, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization, is a one-year advanced math credit course for high school students. It provides financial education, career exploration, college planning and funding and reality-based math.  The course passed the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) review, and was officially approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).  RLFM is scheduled to begin September 2017.

Why RLFM? Real Life and the Game of Real Life, the predecessor course to RLFM, has achieved significant socio-economic transformation in the lives of underserved teens.  Real Life has been attended by 1,200 high school students from 2006 to 2012.  Case studies, evaluations and longitudinal data show this program to be highly effective –  100% of course graduates  have completed high school and 98% have entered college. Longitudinal data from 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 of 358 course graduates show 91.7% have graduated or are on schedule to graduate from college in 6 years.

Lorraine and Ken Decker, the authors of RLFM, and the Board of Financial Mentors of America support this course because of its outcomes and model instructional methods. The socio-economic transformations are important for the future of the students and the economy of the state.  Our objective is to bring this course to 1,254 Texas school districts, and to recruit collaborating employers, churches and civic organizations to provide community support.  Once in Texas schools, we hope to expand to other states.
