Career Explorer Panel Results!
The FMA Team
LiKeam Jackson is a VISTA who leads Community Engagement for FMA and he recently recruited a panel of ten volunteers to serve as Career Explorers and visit high school classrooms at two YES Prep campuses in Houston, The Career Explorers shared their histories and experiences from high school through post-secondary education all the way up to who they are today and students gained insights on internships, volunteering, college funding and career paths they had not previously considered. This is important for students because many high school graduates don’t even know the possibilities! There are so many careers out there that we, as adults, still don’t know exist. Thanks to these panel members, the kids at Yes Prep left school that day with new possibilities swirling in their heads.
The results were amazing! 60% of the students had brand new ideas for careers, 90% of the students wanted to become more active in their community, and 75% of the students reported that they had new ideas for what the future could hold for them. Feedback from one of the YES Prep teachers was that she “witnessed some of my students being more engaged than they had been all semester.”
FMA is pleased to be offering this free service to classrooms across the state of Texas. Fill out the form below to bring one to your local high school!
