Connect the Dots Fall Teacher 2015

Job Description 

Financial Mentors of America will recruit an individual to serve in a key role as a part-time instructor for FMA’s fall Connect the Dots (CTD) and Game of Real Life program.  Engagement is fall semester 2015 with possible continuation of classes in spring 2016. This is a new course to be offered during the school day.  Therefore instructor should be prepared to work closely with course developer to enhance the program and prepare it for expansion.

Connect the Dots is a middle school college and career readiness one-semester course, meeting Texas CTE TEKS.  It was developed from the Real Life course for high school students, which has been taught to 1,200 students since 2006 with outstanding outcomes.  Real Life will be brought back to high school students in the 2017-2018 school year, upon completion of the TEA TEKS review process.  CTD is new.  It has been taught as an after-school and will be taught as a summer intense learning experience in June 2015.  In the fall, CTD will be taught at Patrick Henry Middle School, 10702 E. Hardy Street.  Classes will be Monday to Friday, to two 7th grade classes as an elective.  It is our desire that the classes be 9 to 10 and 10 to 11am.

The hiring process is three tracked.  1) You must be offered the position by FMA, 2) Apply to HISD and meet their requirements and then 3) Be hired by the principal of Pat Henry Middle School.

This is an excellent opportunity for a person who is considering teaching as a career, a person working on an advanced degree, a professional who has the ability to prepare and schedule a part-time teaching position into his life or a newly retired teacher. Important – all must want to connect with underserved teens and change their lives!

Academic Qualifications

Applicants must be either a college graduate with work or significant volunteer experience or a college graduate with a teaching certificate.  A desire to work with underserved teens and knowledge of finances, career discovery and or post-secondary education planning and funding is valuable.
